Dr. Geraldine Dorcas Kavembe

Dr. Geraldine Dorcas Kavembe has a PhD in Biology from the University of Konstanz, Germany (2015), Master of Science (Animal Genetics and Breeding) from the University of Nairobi (2008) and Bachelor of Science (Biology) from the University of Nairobi (2005). She joined South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) in 2010. Dr. Kavembe is involved in teaching, supervising and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. She has research interests in population genetics, evolutionary and conservation biology. Currently, Dr. Kavembe is engaged in research projects examining the physiological and genetic adaptations of Magadi tilapia, a small cichlid fish endemic to Lake Magadi, arguably one of the world’s most extreme environments.  Dr. Kavembe has published widely in various internationally recognized journals and presented seminars in various conferences and workshops both locally and abroad. Prior to joining SEKU, she worked as a consultant at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and at the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF).
